Syfy Orders A Script For A Blake’s 7 Remake!

Though the Syfy channel isn’t currently much of an actual “science fiction” channel, they seem to be trying to change in the next few years.  Defiance premiers early next year, they recently ordered 2 new pilots (Proof and High Moon), are deciding on whether to order a space-opera pilot (Defender) from Andromeda developer Robert Hewitt Wolfe and just ordered another script for a potential Firefly-esque series (Clandestine).  

Well yesterday, we got more news as they ordered a script for a Blake’s 7 reboot that has being floating around the past few weeks.  They deal works that if they like the script, they will order a 13 episode first season!  It will be written by Joe Pokaski of Heroes and directed by Casino Royale director Martin Campbell.Blake’s 7  ran on the BBC back in 1978 and was a cult hit among sci-fi fans.  It was about “a group of convicts and outcasts [fighting] a guerrilla war against the totalitarian Terran Federation from a highly advanced alien spaceship.”  

It was famous for showing real characters and moral ambiguity in a bleak world.  If Syfy can make this remake even half as good as they made their remake of Battlestar Galactica, another old cult sci-fi show, then I think this is great news!  If you haven’t yet seen their reimagined Battlestar Galactica, I HIGHLY recommend it.Will you give this show a chance if it makes it to series?  I know many are boycotting Syfy for cancelling their favourite shows (Eureka, SGU etc.) but they seem to be trying to change their image and boycotting them only means these new exciting shows will fail and you will be stuck with wrestling forever.

Hoewel Syfy channel momenteel weinig "science-fiction" uitzendt, lijken ze het nu toch over een andere boeg te willen gooien! Volgend jaar krijgen we Defiance, recentelijk hebben ze twee nieuwe pilots besteld (High Moon en Clandestine) en mogelijk wordt Robert Hewitt Wolfe's pilot Defender ook nog besteld. Daarnaast heb je nog de serie Rewind.

Welnu gisteren was er nog meer goed nieuws, Syfy heeft een script besteld voor de Blake's 7 reboot. Indien ze de pilot goed vinden zal er vervolgens een eerste seizoen van 13 afleveringen worden besteld. Het zal geschreven worden door Joe Pokaski van Heroes en zal geregisseerd worden door Casino Royale's Martin Campbell. Blake's 7 werd in 1978 voor het eerst uitgezonden en was een echte cult hit.

De serie stond bekend om zijn "echte" karakters en dat ze niet perfect waren. Wanneer Syfy het voor elkaar krijgt deze remake ook maar half zo goed te maken als de remake van Battlestar Galactica zou dat een hele prestatie zijn. Kortom wel goed nieuws, zoveel sci-fi in aantocht!

Of sci-fi fans Syfy nog een kans geven valt nog te bezien omdat ze de laatste jaren al heel wat goed sci-fi hebben gecancelled. Ze lijken echter toch zelf ook in te zien dat ze niet goed bezig waren en komen nu dus met een aantal fraaie sci-fi projecten.

Martin Campbell And Georgeville TV Shop Reboot Of Cult U.K. Sci-Fi Series ‘Blake’s 7′

Georgeville Television, an independent TV studio co-founded recently by Leon Clarance of Motion Picture Capital, the financing arm of Reliance Entertainment, and producer Marc Rosen, has teamed with feature director Martin Campbell (Casino Royal) to revive the cult 1978 adventure/sci-fi series Blake’s 7. Writer Joe Pokaski (Heroes, CSI) will pen the re-imagining of the original series created by Terry Nation, a prolific UK TV writer who also created the Daleks for the classic BBC series Doctor Who. Campbell is attached to direct the Blake’s 7 reboot, which is being shopped to U.S. networks. That’s right, this will not be a British production folks.

Georgeville Television, een zelfstandige TV studio recentelijk medeopgericht door Leon Clarence van Motion Picture Capital, de financiele tentakel van Reliance Entertainment, en productent Marc Rosen zijn samen met Martin Campell (Casino Royal) van plan de cult serie Blake's 7 weer nieuw leven in te blazen! Blake's 7 kwam voor het eerst eind jaren 70 op tv. Schrijver Joe Pokaski (Heroes, CSI) zal de nieuwe versie schrijven, het origineel was van maker Terry Nation, een UK TV schrijver de ook de Daleks heeft gecreeërd voor de klassieke BBC serie Doctor Who. Campbell zal de reboot regisseren en deze zal aan de Amerikaande tv zenders worden aangeboden. Inderdaad, het is dus geen Britse productie!
