In February it was announced that a Farscape movie was in the works, which we also reported here, but at the WonderCon the creator of Farscape and Revolution showrunner Rockne S. O'Bannon confirmed that the script for a new Farscape feature is currently underway, with Brian Henson on board as well. Although it's still in the (very) early stages, this is of course great news! See full post below:
Holy frell. Speaking on a panel at WonderCon yesterday, Farscape creator and Revolution showrunner Rockne S. O’Bannon confirmed that the script for a new Farscape feature is currently underway, with Brian Henson on board as well.
O’Bannon reminded fans that production is still in “early, early stages,” but commended Henson for keeping the project going: “He was like a dog with a bone. He would not give up on it.”
We first heard whispers of new Farscape back in February, when if.com.au broke the news that writer/co-executive producer Justin Monjo was writing the screenplay. The plot will reportedly follows John and Aeryn’s son, whose special powers have, inevitably, made him the target of alien bad guys. He rejoins his parents aboard their ship (Moya, I would assume), where hijinks will undoubtedly ensue.
There’s no word yet as to what kind of release we’re talking about (TV seems the smartest bet), or when we might hope to see our lovable band of fugitives on screen again.

Today Farscape celebrates it's 15th Anniversary! On March 19, 1999 it debuted on the Sci-fi channel (oh man, how I miss that name). It never did really big numbers but nevertheless it made a big impression on sci-fi fans all around the world. Fascape of course had two great space opera's which were there before, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Babylon 5 but Farscape made a name for itself. It was a daring tv series, it had a great cast and some out of this world stories. Farscape was cancelled in 2003, I think mainly because of Stargate, sci-fi channel had to chose between Stargate or Farscape and it became Stargate. Farscape did get the luxury of a miniseries, which most sci-fi series can only dream of.
I had a lot of trouble back in the day to be able to watch Farscape on TV here in The Netherlands. It took a few years before it was broadcast here and after the first season there was a long hiatus of one or two years. Furthermore, it was broadcast in the middle of in the afternoon, on a Sunday. Farscape also has never been released in The Netherlands, except for the first 8 episodes on DVD. So in 2009 for the first time I was able to watch Farscape from episode one until the miniseries. I recently purchased the Blu-Ray (upscaled) release of Farscape and within the next few months I will start watching Farscape again and for the first time I can watch it with English subtitles! This has always been problematic with this series.
Till this day Farscape, even more than Babylon 5, lives, it's still on people's mind, every year there is talk of a reboot in some sort of way. Last month there was a news item about a Farscape TV movie (see post below), as i said, Farscape is still alive and I am confident it will be back in some form.

Somehow this slipped me by (thanks to a fellow sci-fi fan who told me about the news, thank you) but apparently this is a real possibility! Ten years after the miniseries "The Peacekeeper Wars" Farscape could return as a (TV) movie. Is this the best news or what? See full post below:
A Farscape movie is in development, a decade after Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars provided closure to fans left hanging by the original series' final episode. Screenwriter Justin Monjo has reportedly written a script for the spinoff, to be directed by Brian Henson (son of Jim Henson), Executive Producer of the show's original four-season run and director of Peacekeeper Wars.
News of the movie spinoff originally broke from if.com, but Tor gives a good summary of the reboot's reported plot:
Set to follow the awesome comics written by our favorite Keith R.A. DeCandido, the film would follow John and Aeryn's son, D'Argo (or Little D, as we will always refer to him). Because their baby was exhibiting a set of interesting powers that made him a magnet for galactic villains, we find that John and Aeryn hide their son on Earth to grow up. Now the kid is 19 and ready to go into space with his parents.

Release date [Germany] November 22, 2013
Released some two years ago in the UK and North America, about to be re-released in North America, now finally also being released in Germany, not as complete series though. Season 1 & 2 are going to be released on the same day, as is also the case with seasons 3 & 4, next year in March (will add that here as soon there is cover art available). What's interesting is that the miniseries "The Peacekeeper Wars" is also going to be on the season 4 release next year.
As most of you know, "The Peacekeeper Wars" already has been released in Germany but the PQ is not that good, so I'm curious if this version will be better than it's original release. Have to say, the cover art is very nice for the first 2 seasons. There will be a German and an English soundtrack on it and as far as I know at this point, only German subs.
Perhaps this is also being released due to the 15th anniversary, like the re-release in North America and in that case the releases would probably be the same but of course I cannot tell yet for sure.

From Jim Henson Productions comes the Sci-Fi cult classic FARSCAPE. Follow John Crichton and the crew of Moya on a journey to places they never dreamed possible. Sizzling with brilliant characters, breathtaking effects, high-stakes action, and irreverent humor, Farscape is like no science fiction before. It is a story of good versus evil, obsession, friendship, and even love. The unpredictable twists and turns of this international TV hit will keep you riveted and cheering for more.
As you know, Farscape on Blu-Ray was released two years ago already, it was not a perfect release, upscaled even, but it was better than the DVD's. It had another plus for the non English and the hearing impaired folks, it was English subtitled. Two years later there is a re-release of the complete series, because of it's 15th anniversary. At this point I do not know if the packaging is the only difference. Perhaps "The Peacekeeper Wars" is included now. I can not imagine though, the set has been remastered to real HD this time but this info has not yet been released, I just wanted to let you know it was coming. As soon as I have more information, you can read it here.

For Farscape fans still grieving over the show’s premature death in 2002 – a loss that the cluttered two-part Peacekeeper Wars in 2004 couldn’t even begin to heal – the wait for the long promised webisodes has been one of the few things keeping us going.
Asked on Twitter whether they were still likely to happen, Syfy executive Craig Engler responded sadly, “We tried. Financing didn’t work.”
When we spoke to the anarchic sci-fi show’s co-creator Brian Henson last year, he told us he hadn’t given up hope and was still committed to seeing them through, but it’s not looking like Syfy will be involved…

Release date [US] November 15, 2011
Release date [UK] November 14, 2011
As mentioned before, Farscape will be released on Blu Ray at the end of this year in the US and the UK. Also mentioned earlier is that the UK version has English subtitles and is of course REGION B. Nou you can see for the first time how the cover art will look in 3D view. About the release itself, quality will not be 1080p, it will however be a significant improvement over the DVD release of 2 years ago. It's an upgrade of the SD material so don't expect miracles because the tv show is already 10 years old. For more info please click on the source link below.

Release date [UK] November 14, 2011
After the release of Stargate Atlantis on Blu, we finally also see the release of "Farscape the Complete Series" on Blu Ray! As usual first in the US and probably later also in the UK.
If the US release will be region free is not yet announced. Probably does not have any subtitles.
The 4 seasons will also be released seperately. It's not yet clear if "the Peacekeeper Wars" are also in this release. Look here for the latest updates.
Farscape on Blu Ray will also be released in the UK which means region B, so it's not an issue anymore if the US version is region A.
*Update* Regarding the UK release, on Amazon.co.uk is announced that the Blu Ray release has English subtitles [for the hard of hearing]
It hasn't been formally announced by A&E Entertainment or distributor New Video, but listings at Amazon.com show that on November 15th you'll be able to get high-definition Blu-ray Disc releases of Farscape - The Complete Series with all four seasons on 20 discs, OR - if you prefer - you can get individual season sets with five discs each for Season 1 through Season 4. Pricing, package art and other details aren't available yet, and Amazon's not even accepting pre-orders yet for these titles.
But we wanted to give our readers the heads-up that these are in-the-works. It's not yet clear if it's region free. Stay tuned and we'll let you know as further developments occur!
