Rewind Won't be Picked up as a Series!

For those of you who were still hoping, Craig Engler tweeted earlier this week that "Rewind" will not be picked up as a TV series unfortunatley. They shot the pilot already in the spring of 2012 and just decided to "burn-off" the pilot last month without almost no advertisement, one small promo on the syfy site, which you can see in the post below this one, and no promo pics or whatever.

I personally enjoyed the pilot and would have liked to see it go to a series. This happens too often lately, please stop with all that reality shit and create some new sci-fi syfy! I for one like Defiance but it's not enough, I want a space oriented show, not only one but it would be a start. And time travel series are also typical sci-fi, we need those too and Rewind's pilot was not perfect but still very enjoyable and could have been perfected along the way. It reminds me of Seven Days, which ran between 1998-2001 on the then UPN channel.

Last year we were promised with a few sci-fi shows coming but they seem to be disappear one by one like Rewind. I mean possible series like: "Starship Defender";"Blake's 7 Reboot"; "Battlstar Galactica: Blood & Chrome" and did anybody hear anything from "Clandestine"? A tv series which would be a mix between Firefly and Farscape. After the good news that a pilot was going to be created, we hear nothing anymore so I fear this project is also canned! Today I asked mr. Craig Engler via tweet about "Clandestine". If he answers, I will let you know. Only High Moon seems to really go forward, it could mean space travel but it could just as well a moonbase series, we will have to see.

Other projects, not Syfy relelated are also still in limbo, possible pilot/series like "Area 51", think we can write this one off also, I think it would be like a "Dark Skies" kind of series. Other one is "Incursion", this one would really be interesting, last news was from April this year so there still is a chance for this one (update: have a more recent news update now). Hopefully USA's Horizon is gonna bring is some much needed sci-fi injection, although again, not space oriented!

Rewind from possible Series to TV movie!

A long time we heard nothing about this project, except that there were rumors that Syfy wasn't interested in this as a series. It sounded like the TV series from 1998, Seven Days, going back in time several days to prevent or change some event. It sounded interesting to me, I liked Seven Days and I was looking forward to this new take on time travel. Casting had been done, even a pilot had been shot but then Syfy decided not to go forward with Rewind as a series.

Now suddenly Syfy has broadcast the pilot as a tv movie last Monday on August 26, 2013. According to Blastr it is/was a backdoor pilot, so perhaps there is a tiny chance. Haven't seen it yet myself but I've read some negative comments about it so we will have to wait and see it for ourselves. See short promo below (update: Syfy removed the promo on their site)

Alphas: Season 3 Decision Expected This Week Also Decision about Rewind is expected!

The waiting will soon be over for fans of Syfy’s Alphas TV series. At the TCA Winter Press Tour, BermanBraun co-founder Gail Berman told The Futon Critic that they expect to hear if Alphas has been cancelled or renewed this week.

The show completed its second season in October and averaged 1.3 million viewers. That’s down by 30% when compared to the first season (1.85 million). A decision is also expected on the fate of Rewind, their Syfy pilot about “a team of military field operatives and civilian scientists who must use untested technology to travel back in time to alter events and change the future.”

BermanBraun produces Alphas, NBC’s Deception, and the recently announced Camp. The company was founded in 2007 by Berman and former ABC Entertainment chairman Lloyd Braun. What do you think? Are you hoping that Alphas is renewed for a third season? Would you like to see Rewind become a weekly series?

About Syfy's Rewind Pilot, will the ordering of High Moon & Clandestine have consequences for Rewind?

Syfy's Rewind Pilot when will it be on TV?

I asked Syfy's Rewind Pilot screenwriter Justin Marks via Twitter if he knew when we would see the pilot of Rewind! Not much to go on at the moment but at least it's something! ;-)

Syfy's Rewind Pilot Adds Lost's Jeff Fahey and Director David Cronenberg

Lost alum Jeff Fahey and director/sometimes actor David Cronenberg (The Fly, A History of Violence) will star in Syfy’s drama pilot Rewind, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The project — directed by Lost vet Jack Bender — features a team of military field operatives and civilian scientists who use untested technology to travel back in time in order to change the future and avoid a devastating terrorist attack. The action thriller stars Shane McRae (Four Kings), Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider), Jennifer Ferrin (The Cape), Robbie Jones (Hellcats) and Keon Mohajeri (Canada’s Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures).

Cronenberg — who has appeared on Happy Town and Alias — will play a brilliant scientist and Nobel Prize winner who becomes unhinged after his wife’s death. He comes up with a dangerous plot to change the course of history. Fahey is a former NASA aerospace engineer with Zen-like wisdom who serves as the spiritual backbone of the time travel team.

Rewind is currently in production in Toronto.

New castmembers added for Rewind's Pilot

Oscar-nominated actress Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider), Jennifer Ferrin (The Cape), Robbie Jones (Hellcats) and Keon Mohajeri have been added to Syfy’s two-hour pilot Rewind, joining previously cast Shane McRae. Written by Justin Marks and directed by Jack Bender, Rewind revolves around a team of military field operatives and civilian scientists who must use untested technology to travel back in time to alter past events in order to change the future and avoid a devastating terrorist attack.

Castle-Hughes will play Priya, the team’s a-typical historian, a behavioral anthropologist who provides analytical context to the project and the missions, and whose knowledge of history extends beyond the boundaries of facts.

Ferrin will play Bryce, a brilliant scientist who graduated MIT when she was 18; the smartest person in the room who is obsessive and driven and doesn’t really care what people think of her.

Jones will play Danny, Henry Knox’s (McRae) friend and the man Knox trusts most to help him get the job done as they embark on their perilous mission into the past.

Mohajeri will play Charlie, a mathematician who has patented an innovative piece of technology that can reduce history to mathematics, in order to measure the team’s actions in the past. Rewind, from BermanBraun and Universal Cable Prods, is executive produced by Marks, Tom Spezialy, Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein. Production on the pilot is set to begin this month. When reading the story, what it's about, it seems very similar to Seven Days, a tv show which ran between 1998 til 2001.

Rewind Cast its Male Lead

Shane McRae

Justin Marks’ TV show “Rewind” on the Syfy Channel has cast its first male lead: Shane McRae. (Now that’s the made-up Hollywood name for an action hero if I’ve ever heard one. One from the Deep South, most likely, whose down home charms hide a deadly killer. Or some such.)

The show, about “a team of military field operatives and civilian scientists who must use untested technology to travel back in time to alter past events in order to change the future and avoid a devastating terrorist attack”, will premiere with a 2-hour pilot that’s set to shoot in April.

McRae will play Henry Knox, an ex-Special Forces operator who now plies his trade as a field operative in a special division of the Department of Homeland Security.

Look, I know this show is just a bullshit remake of “Seven Days” and “Source Code”, but I’ll give it the pilot to convince me it actually has more going for it than just that.

Syfy Greenlights ‘Rewind’ SF Action Thriller Pilot

Rewind new SF show

In its first pilot pickup in more than an year, Syfy has given the green light to Rewind, an action thriller from feature writer Justin Marks, BermanBraun and Universal Cable Prods. Rewind, which has received an order for a two-hour pilot, revolves around a team of military field operatives and civilian scientists who must use untested technology to travel back in time to alter past events in order to change the future and avoid a devastating terrorist attack. Marks wrote the script and will executive produce the pilot with veteran showrunner Tom Spezialy (Chaos), Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein.

This marks Syfy’s first original pilot order since the 2010 duo of Alphas and Three Inches, one of which, Alphas, went to series and has been renewed for a second season. Like Rewind, Alphas hails from BermanBraun and UCP. “We couldn’t be happier to be back in business with BermanBraun,” said Mark Stern, Syfy’s president of original content. “Justin Marks has created a time-travel series with an exciting innovative approach that really exemplifies Syfy’s commitment to bring compelling storytelling to life.” Production on Rewind is set to begin in April. The order for Rewind comes after an extensive script review process at Syfy, which explored different scenarios, including ordering projects as limited series in the vein of AMC’s pickup of The Walking Dead, before settling on a 2-hour order for early frontrunner Rewind. In addition to Alphas andThree Inches, Syfy’s only pilot pickup was the Battlestar offshoot Blood & Crome, which remains in contention. Marks is with CAA and Madhouse.

Coudn't agree more F.Murray, liked it too, had really potential. I liked the fact that they did not return to the time where the disaster actually was about to happen but way back in history. This is, I think, what could have made it different from other time travel shows. I indeed ended confusing, would have loved to see it followed up.

Btw, thanks for visiting and commenting F. Murray!

I thought the pilot was great. It just left you with a really confusing ending of what did I miss. Syfy is good about getting people interested in a show and pulling the plug like the way did with Caprica.

Hello dr pepper :) first of all thanks for visiting and commenting.

I agree with you, the name change was the beginning and the reason is mainly what you describe I believe. Pity, more and more people cry out online about the need for a good space oriented tv show. They need to wake up at Syfy and get back to what they were good at in the past. I for one dislike that wrestling garbage and for the life of me, i cannot fathom why people watch that, just unbelievable to me.

I've said it before, SyFy, the network thatr dare not speak its name, was taken over by mundanes a few years ago. They changed the name because the whole concept of scifi embarrasses them. That's why they've become the ghost hunters and wrestling network. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but why the hell can't there be just one truly fannish network?
